Nanami Fujishiro (藤白七実 Fujishiro Nanami) is a former member of the Senriyama mahjong team. She also appears under the name Natchan

Appearance

She has a stereotypical delinquent appearance. Nanami has dyed blonde hair and has many ear piercings. As Natchan, she wears the maid costume associated with Shimeki Diner and her hair color is a blueish grey.

Personality

Nanami is a fierce girl with good intuition. She is very observant and seems to be able to understand people on a fundamental level just by being around them. As Natchan, she showed a more caring side to her. She reveals to Toki Onjouji that there is a person which she wished to approve of her mahjong play.

Plot

Battling Fujishiro Arc(Toki manga)

Izumi tell Sera and Hiroe Atago about an interesting person that plays at her mahjong parlor so they decide to challenge her. Nanami says that if they're challenging her then they're ready for "that rule" but they have no idea what she means. She tries to shoo them away but to no avail. Nanami tells them the rule is a natural principle in that the winners will take from the losers. She warns them again but they decide to play her. While playing, she picks at their mental state then one by one they started making many mistakes. Nanami wins the match. She decides to start with Izumi and makes her cut her hair short because she wanted to immitate Sera and Hiroe's style. She then makes Sera hand over her parka because it represents the bonds between Sera and Hiroe. Hiroe starts handing over her jacket but Nanami says she doesn't need that because something else is important to her. She then whispers into the girls ears.

Finding Fujishiro Arc

She is riding fast on her bicycle and nearly hits Toki in the process. She asks if she is okay but the girl collapses on the ground crying. Nanami then picks her up and puts her on the bike before riding off. Nanami takes her to Shimeki Diner and tells her grandma that she may have injured a girl. They go inside to treat her but Toki is fine. She is relieved and offers to take the girl home. Nanami apologizes to Toki and tells her to come back so she can treat her to a meal. Toki comes back the next day and order the most popular item on the menu. Toki mentions that her parents use to come there and it brings Nanami to tears. She brushes it off and offers her more food.

Toki comes in later and tells Nanami about her conversations with Sera. This pisses the girl off and asks if she wants her to teach her a lesson. Nanami says that she is in the same situation as Toki and that they both need to work hard.

It is later revealed that Natchan is the same person as Nanami Fujishiro.

Joining the Mahjong Team Arc

Natchan serves Toki and Ryuuka. She tells them that she won't be spending too much time at the diner anymore and that she wants to prove something to someone. She then asks for their support and is overjoyed when they both root for her. She's a little taken aback when Toki says that she wants to join the mahjong club because she thought she was already a member of one. She says they are similar and if she hadn't met "that person" she'd still be causing havoc in mahjong parlors.

Nanami notices Ryuuka and Toki run by during the opening of the middle school tournament. A member of her team asks if it's someone she knew but Nanami tells her no and that all she sees are enemies to be crushed. We then see her prepare herself before the vanguard match begins. She later views her team winning and heads to lunch by herself. She then remembers back to her second year of middle school to a time when one interesting person ate lunch with her. Nanami takes the girl to Shimeki Diner and pays for her food. The girl tries to protest but eats anyway. Later she tells the girl of her mahjong skills and that Natsu defeated her with ease then fed her at the diner. In the present, she says that she was weak back then just like that girl but now she is strong.

Nanami stays quiet for the first few hands but then speaks up about her analyzes and starts badmouthing Kaori Shirosaka, Fuuko Muroto, and Yurai Sugawara. She uses her ability on the girls and they feel off. Kaori tries to shake it off but she plays right into Nanami's hand. Nanami starts a big win streak and starts to break Kaori's confidence. Nanami thinks back to the talks she had with the girl on the roof. She tries to come up with a surefire way to win at mahjong and the girl suggest mind breaking her opponents. By breaking their will and threatening to take away something important to them, that will make them weaker. Nanami says that girl was weak but struggled harder than anyone.

National Championship Arc (Saki manga)

Nanami is mentioned by Yoshiko when she tells Hayari Mizuhara that she defeated Teru once. She credits Nanami for exhausting Teru in their match, saying that that may have been a factor.

Playing Style / Abilities

Her main strategy is to mind break her opponent. By breaking their will and threatening to take away something important to them, that will make them weaker. Yoshiko Kainou said that she weakened Teru Miyanaga before they played. This, coupled with her having the highest ranking in the prestigious mahjong club at Senriyama, suggest that she is highly skilled. Izumi Nijou says that while playing against her, things got confusing and players started to make mistakes but there is nothing special about her play style. She tends to keep her tiles unarranged.

Etymology

• The name Nanami means "seven" (七) (nana) and "fruit, good result, truth" (実) (mi).
• Nanami's surname Fujishiro means "wisteria" (藤) (fuji) and "white" (白) (shiro).
